Specification & Options
Every Silverbirch composite canoe is built to order, with a focused range of specifications designed to allow meaningful choice without unnecessary complexity. At launch, our composite offering is deliberately streamlined, allowing us to maintain consistency and refine our processes in-house.
Construction / Laminate
Composite canoes are currently offered in a single flagship laminate, utilising a fully infused, carbon-based construction developed specifically for real-world paddling durability.
Additional laminate options are planned for the future. For now, our focus is on delivering one proven construction, built consistently and to the highest standard.
More DetailsHull Finish
Two exterior finish options are available:
- Clear carbon with coloured waterline.
Our recommended option. A coloured waterline allows for increased durability where the canoe sees the most wear, while keeping weight to a minimum above the waterline and showcasing the carbon laminate. Custom waterline colours are available. - Solid exterior colour
A fully coloured exterior finish, offering a clean, traditional aesthetic. This option typically adds approximately 2 kg compared to a clear carbon finish.
Gunwales & Outfitting
Two gunwale systems are available:
- Traditional wooden gunwales with hung outfitting
Full-profile wooden gunwales with seats, thwarts, and yoke hung from stainless fixings. This approach offers maximum flexibility for future changes. - Lightweight bonded wooden gunwales with pod-mounted outfitting
A minimal wooden gunwale profile bonded directly to the hull, with seats, thwarts, and yoke mounted via integrated composite pods. This system reduces weight, increases stiffness, and delivers a clean, modern interior.
Seats, Yoke & Kneeling Thwart
Composite canoes are supplied with curved wood/web seats, shaped for comfort and efficient paddling. A curved kneeling thwart may be specified or omitted depending on paddling style. A lightweight flat wooden yoke is supplied as standard to minimise overall weight.
